Historical Sites
Area historical sites, some dating back to the start of our country, can easily be visited by planning a day-trip starting at StonyGlen. Here are a few ideas for day one.
Take a drive to nearby colonial Hanna's Town, or go westward to the native Indian battlefield, Bushy Run, to witness its monuments and visit its museum.
If you decide to go eastward on Route 30 instead, you’ll initially encounter The Lincoln Highway Experience very near the Kingston Dam. From there you could head on to Ligonier for a tour of its historic fort.
And for a second day adventure, why not drive to the Johnstown Flood or the Flight 93 National Memorials and learn how those dramatic and terrifying tragedies affected Pennsylvania history.

Me, Meditation & More
Instead of living another day in the “old", why not try something different by staying at StonyGlen awhile to create something new in your world.
Mix and match colors as you try your hand at painting on canvas, maybe even for the first time. Delve into the various interesting books you'll find on our bookshelves, even taking one or two to a comfortable place to read. Or just rock back and forth on a gazebo’s swing, befriend a dog in the dog corral, smell the freshness of the surrounding hillsides, or take a walk and wonder at the beauty of nature everywhere, spring, summer, or fall.
These are just a few of the sublime benefits awaiting you at StonyGlen.
Architecture & Landmarks
Downtown Greensburg has some very interesting places to visit on or near Main Street.
Sit inside the rotunda of the County Courthouse and your eyes will automatically be drawn upward to the magnificent features of its enormous dome, an architectural masterpiece.
Uptown you can visit the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, which is sure to please. Admission is free, but you’ll need to pre-register online.
Then consider going to the public library, just one block from the main street, to peruse its many bookshelves.

Golfing
When Arnold Palmer was growing up in nearby Latrobe, he probably never imagined the golfing boom that would follow him throughout his career.
Several well-maintained courses, not far from Arnie’s original home site, are available to the public. Each would offer a test of your game skills.
Here’s what you can do. Take a day to rest, relax, and practice your swing and putting at our Golf Center. Clubs and balls are available there for your use.
Then the next day, when you stand on the first tee of the course you have chosen to play, you’ll be ready to make your best shot.
To help, we’ll even put a 3-pack of new balls in your golf bag for good luck and in memory of the great Arnold Palmer. Try not to lose any!

A Day to Remember at StonyGlen
Here’s how you can make it happen:
After a good night’s rest at StonyGlen, enjoy a hearty breakfast in the morning before starting on a walk around the property. But before you go, maybe you would like to sit for a while, either on the screened porch, rocking back & forth in a rocking chair, or on the patio where you’ll feel the warming rays of the morning sun. When you’re ready, cross the small bridge leading from the patio and either go right to the bench with a view or left past the Golf Center to the “Kissing Gazebo”, only a short distance up the hill.
There you’ll have a perfect chance to reflect on nature’s beauty as you push back and forth in gentle rhythm while seated on the glider there. If you hear a dog bark, it’s probably coming from the nearby dog corral, where dogs can be leashed and taken for short walks around the property.
As you go past the corral, you’ll encounter the impressive Hawk’s Nest Monument, carefully sculptured from the trunk of a giant ash tree – an excellent place for a photoshoot.
Next, to rest awhile, head for the large gazebo with two swings found alongside the driveway at the front of the property. Then, continuing farther down the street frontage, don’t miss the scenic overlook located above the historic Witch’s Tunnel with its dramatically deep entrance ravine, plus the landscape cascade found there.
And before heading back to the comforts of your overnight home, sit beside the nearby pond and gaze at its fountain shooting water up into the air, soon returning with a soothing splash to the pond’s rippling surface.
These pleasant memories will linger with you long after your stay ends, because you will know that StonyGlen is definitely “A PLACE TO REMEMBER”.
